The Royal Welsh was formed from three other regiments on St David’s Day,1st March, 2006, though the histories of its parent regiments span 300 years. The regiment includes a goat, a tradition started in 1775 when a wild goat wandered onto the battlefield during the American War of Independence. The goat is considered a regular soldier, with the incumbent holding the rank of Fusilier.
