Royal Welsh

The Royal Welsh was formed from three other regiments on St David’s Day, 1st March, 2006. The histories of its parent regiments go back over 300 years, and were first raised within days of each other in 1689. The regiment includes a goat, a tradition started in 1775 when a wild goat wandered onto the battlefield during the American War of Independence. The goat is considered a regular soldier, with the incumbent holding the rank of Fusilier.
