Royal Tank Regiment

Created in 1917, towards the end of the First World War as tanks were realised to be a key part of modern armies, the Royal Tank Regiment is today made up of two regiments, despite being a regiment itself. Its officers are known for the practice of carrying an Ash walking stick as part of their uniform, a throwback to the early days of tanks, when officers would need to check for soft ground to prevent their tanks becoming bogged down.
