Royal Scots

The Royal Scots was the oldest Infantry Regiment of the Line in the British Army before becoming part of the Royal Regiment of Scotland in 2006. It was formed in 1633 by Sir John Hepburn under the Royal Warrant of King Charles I, who needed men to fight in France. It was recalled to secure the coronation of Charles II, and provided an exemplar for other regiments following the collapse of the New Model Army.
