Formed in 1960 from the 9th Queen's Royal Lancers and the 12th Royal Lancers, they are a Cavalry regiment now responsible for reconnaissance, and attached to the famous Desert Rats (7th Armoured Brigade). One of the antecedent regiments, the 9th Queen's Royal Lancers particpated in the last 'lance-on-lance' combat charge, at Moncel in 1914.
