Oakham

Oakham was founded in 1584 by Archdeacon Robert Johnson, who also founded Uppingham School, with whom they share a fierce rivalry. Although in 1875 the school had just 4 pupils, it now educates around 1000, and, in 1971, was the first public school in Britain to accept both male and female students. Famous alumni include rugby player Lewis Moody and comedian Miles Jupp.
