Royal Navy

Royal Navy

Being an island, the strength of Britain has always been closely connected with the potency of its Navy. Alfred the Great is often credited for the founding of what became the Royal Navy when he began to build large ships in order to protect his people from Viking raiders. Ever since, the Navy has been a source of pride for Britain, lending its name to the colour of its distinctive uniforms and providing the basis for one of the world’s great empires.
