The King's Own Scottish Borderers were in existence from 1689 until 2006. The regiment was raised on the 18th March 1689 by the Earl of Leven to defend Edinburgh against the Jacobite forces of James II, when it is claimed that 800 men were raised within the space of 2 hours.
